3rd Workshop on New Developmentalism: Theory and Policy for Developing Countries

CALL FOR PAPERS

The Centre for Studies on New Developmentalism of the Sao Paulo School of Business Administration at Getulio Vargas Foundation is pleased to invite interested candidates for participating in the 3rd Workshop on New Developmentalism – Theory and Policies for Developing Countries –, which will be held in São Paulo, Brazil, on July 26 and 27th, 2018.

The workshop will include, in the first day, a mini-course on new developmentalism in which this theory will be compared with classical developmentalism (development economics) as well as with post-Keynesian macroeconomics – the two school of thoughts from which new developmentalism originates. In the second day, panelists will present the selected papers for the workshop. 

 

Lecturers and keynote speaker

Lecturers:

 

Luiz Carlos Bresser-Pereira: Emeritus Professor at FGV. Former Finance Minister of Brazil; former Minister of Federal Administration and State Reform; former Minister of Science and Technology; Emeritus Researcher of National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPQ).

 

Nelson Marconi: Professor at EAESP-FGV; Former President of Brazilian Keynesian Association; Coordinator of Economics Forum at Getulio Vargas Foundation.

 

Jose Luis Oreiro: Professor at UnB (University of Brasilia); Former President of Brazilian Keynesian Association.

 

Keynote Speaker:

 

Roberto Frenkel: Senior Research at CEDES (Centro de Estudios de Estado y Sociedad), Argentina; Former professor at University of Buenos Aires, University Torcuato di Tella and University of Palermo.

 

Applications

Researchers and students are invited either to attend to the workshop and submit a paper for a panel, or to attend to the workshop (lectures and panels) only.

FOR SUBMISSIONS TO PANELS: Candidates should submit an abstract dealing with the economic or political economy issues associated to new developmentalism theory. It should reach a maximum size of 500 words (excluding references). It should be sent in pdf format and must include identification of author, filiation, and title of the article. Due date is June, 11th.  Results will be released on June, 13th. E-mail address to submissions: cnd@fgv.br.

Final versions of papers for accepted submissions should be sent no later than July, 9th.

Best articles may be published in the Brazilian Journal of Political Economy.

FOR ALL INTERESTED PEOPLE: All applicants shall send a short (one page) curriculum vitae, containing no less than maximum academic degree, the corresponding institution, research interests and most relevant publications (not mandatory). 

  - The Centre will provide 3 nights of hotel for the panelists.

  - The Centre will provide lunch and coffee break for all participants.

 

There will be a symbolic registration fee of US$50.00 or R$175,00 for all participants.

Panellists and participants will receive certificates.

 

The Hotel Paulista Wall Street (5 minutes away from the conference place) offers special tariffs for the participants (please inform that you are enrolled in the Workshop for special rates).

- For the panellists, the deadline to submit abstracts is June 11th, 2018.

- For the attendants only, the deadline for enrolment will be July 10th, 2018.

- Notification of acceptance of papers submissions will be sent no later than June 13th, 2018.

- Final papers should be sent no later than July 9th, 2018.
